Forget Me Not; Reassembling the Barbican Archives

In May 2019, The Barbican Young Curators presented a show that blurred the line between historical narrative and creative response, through the use of never before seen archival material.

Forget Me Not: Reassembling the Barbican Archives was a response to the process of institutional forgetting and an exploration into the implications of curating the past. The exhibition and accompanying publication showcased work from the archives alongside newly commissioned work from other young creatives.

The Young Curators group was made up of thirteen young creatives who have been exploring archives and curation in the context of the Barbican Art Centre and Guildhall School of Music & Drama. The group used the newly founded Barbican archives as the primary material for their curatorial practice. Throughout the programme they collaborated with archivists, curators and mentors from across the Barbican and other London based institutions to explore the potential of archival material.
